Houle Industries
A family story
In 1958 Charles Émile Houle – the grandfather – decided to sell the dairy farm and the land to set up a garage in the village of St Dominique.
At first, the business specialised in the repair and manufacture of agricultural machinery used in sugar beet production. At the time, sugar beet was the dominant crop in the region, as part of the Quebec government’s plan to supply sugar locally. A combination of circumstances eventually forced the closure of the Mont-St-Hilaire refinery in 1986. A serious setback for farmers.
Evolution and Resilience
As well as losing jobs with the liquidation of the factory, beet growers had to find another crop to grow. Garage Houle has had to adapt to the new times, and continues to service machinery for the production of field crops such as maize and soya.
In 1993, Denis Houle took over the business, which specializes in repairing transport equipment, trucks and trailers for bulk and animal transport. The mechanical workshop suffered a major fire in 2006, resulting in a total loss. We had to start from scratch a second time.
Changes in agricultural production methods and regional construction projects, two powerful drivers of development, are forcing Garage Houle to adapt its services. From repairing tractors to maintaining and repairing bulk transport trucks, Houle Industries has evolved over time to specialise in mechanised tarp systems for transporting bulk materials.

Innovation and Growth
From 2006 onwards, under the management of Sébastien Houle, the company developed expertise in the manufacture of mechanised tarpaulin systems for transporting bulk materials. Repairing trailers for bulk transport became Garage Houle’s second area of expertise.
In 2020, Houle Industries acquired its facilities at 18185 Avenue Saint-Louis in St-Hyacinthe.
Today, Houle Industries is a constantly evolving company focused on innovation. It’s a modern, well-equipped industry, with automated machinery for making canvases (up to 53′ long), 8-axis CNC machining, and a production line equipped with 3D printers. An industry that manufactures 85% of the parts for its systems, with the capacity to design, manufacture, install and repair top-quality mechanised canvas parts and systems.
